Disappoint in the Eyes of Many
The recent picture of Michael Phelps doing drugs was a big let down to many. I really thought Michael was a great role model for young people. That opinion has change but, I do still think his performance at the 2008 Olympics was amazing. I realize that everyone one wants to let loose and just relax sometimes, but there are other ways to do that and there is no excuse for his actions. I think it is very important for people that are in the media spotlight to set good examples for the youth in our country. Some famous people that seem to make bad choices must have not heard the expression monkey see monkey do. Which is exactly what the kids today are seeing and doing. A person who serves as a model in a particular behavioral or social role for another person to emulate this is a role model. I would love to be a role model to someone someday.

Cecilia...I agree with your take on the Phelps controversy. You also said, "I would love to be a role model to someone someday." I have heard it said once that our influence is like the dropping of a pebble into a lake...the ripples of our influence/actions/words/deeds, etc. will continue out indefinitely...impacting the lives of many we will never know. Take heart...you probably already are a role model to someone.
